Teach me to be a prayer that walks. Teach me how my work may be a hymn, my word a blessing, and my glance a mercy that embraces every creature.

O Lord,

when Your sun rises upon my face, remind me that You are the light of the world, and when I wash my face with the water of the morning, let my heart be purified by Your precious blood.

O beloved Jesus,

teach me to be a prayer that walks.

Teach me how my work may be a hymn, my word a blessing, and my glance a mercy that embraces every creature.

Make of my day a long Liturgy, of every encounter a communion of love, and of every weariness an offering upon Your altar.

And when I sin, remind me of the humility of repentance. And when I grow weak, breathe into my spirit a breath of hope.

And when I grieve, lay Your hand upon my wound as You laid it upon the sick and the broken.

O Lord,

let my heart be a small house that You dwell in, and my life a Gospel whose lines are read among people, that they may read in me Your presence, and find in my eyes Your peace.

O Jesus, make my life a prayer that walks upon the earth, a prayer that blesses the dust it treads, and leaves behind it the trace of grace — Your trace.
