The Story of Prophet Isaiah
The Story of Prophet Isaiah
Prophet Isaiah is one of the great prophets of the Old Testament. He lived in Jerusalem in the eighth century BC and called the people to repentance, a return to God and the practice of justice, especially toward the poor and oppressed.
The Book of Isaiah holds judgement and hope together. It reveals the gravity of turning away from God while proclaiming comfort, salvation and the coming of «Emmanuel». The Church therefore recognises in his prophecies clear signs of the mystery of Christ and His saving work.
The Orthodox Church reads many passages from Isaiah, especially during Great Lent. His story calls us to purity of heart, steadfast faith and a life that joins prayer with mercy and truth.
